22 chair by Jaime Hayon for Ceccotti
Each year Spanish artist-designer Jaime Hayon, surprises us with his new collaborations. This year, for the first time in his career, Hayon launched a chair for the famous Italian brand Ceccotti during the Salone del Mobile in Milan. The chair is called “Twenty Two” because there are 22 pieces of the finest wood which make up this amazing work of craftsmanship.

Georgetti is a company founded in Meda, Italy, a province not far from Milan known for it’s furniture craftspeople. I don’t know if any readers have been to Italy. Maybe you even live in Italy and know this already. Italy is a country stuffed with the finest craftspeople. I have never seen so many well produced products made with such ease. Of course, I would imagine that people in Italy would tell you that craft has really dropped off as an art and a profession in Italy. These people should be happy with what they got because they probably have never seen the state of American craft. Don’t get me started.

The client requested a contemporary, iconic house without unnecessary rooms, open plan and airy. They needed 4 suites, a living area and a large study as he does a lot of work from home. The wife originally wanted burglar bars, which is not allowed in the estate, but this was the inspiration for the random steel bars used around the house, which could possibly keep flying elephants out.
